CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, is one of the world’s leading centres for fundamental physics. Located near Geneva, on the border of Switzerland and France, CERN explores what the universe is made of and how it works. Using the world’s most powerful particle accelerators, scientists and engineers recreate conditions similar to those just after the Big Bang.

Founded in 1954, CERN brings together scientists, engineers and students from more than 100 nationalities. Our facilities, including the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), enable groundbreaking discoveries such as the Higgs boson. But CERN is not only about physics.
