AmperaPark 2
This internship was conducted at AmperaPark, a company that builds solar carports that transform parking lots into power plants. Connected to these solar carports is an energy management system that regulates electricity use to optimally use the electricity provided by the solar carport. The assignment was to extend the existing energy management system with an heat pump system.
Part of this assignment was to figure out which elements are relevant in modelling a heat pump and buffer to be able to predict and schedule heat pump operation for a whole day. This resulted in needing to determine how heat loss in a building could be predicted, how temperature change due to the heat pump in the building should be modelled and how this all could be integrated into the existing energy management system.
During the internship I encountered a good mix of researching the problem and finding practical constraints and implementing these into the EMS using python. It was helpful to learn to think about problems and there practical implementations, as you want to create something that could be implemented and be helpful to the company you learned to make decisions regarding the precision of the model and the practical implementation.
The report presents a model which determines the elements of the implementation, the corresponding constraints which needs to be written down in the form of a formula, and two methods to estimate the heat change inside a building.
