DEMCON Multiphysics is a high-tech engineering company in the fields of heat transfer, fluid dynamics, mechanics, electromagnetism, acoustics and particle physics. The company offers internal and external customers innovative solutions in the design, development and improvement of physical processes and mechanical devices. The company uses various analytical, numerical, and experimental tools to further develop a concept design. They use a variety of software packages, such as ANSYS, COMSOL and SimulationX, and also have a large computational cluster to perform CFD and FEM simulations. The goal of my internship was to accurately model the flow inside of a pressure regulator of a gas pipe. This model was analyzed by performing CFD simulations while investigating the effects of different variables on the simulations. Some of these variables include the meshing of the geometry, the use of different turbulence models, and boundary conditions. The environment at DEMCON Multiphysics was extremely friendly and open to any queries from interns. Completing an internship at DEMCON was extremely informative and enjoyable.
