Gnera
Before the internship, I was eager to put into practice all the knowledge I had acquired during my master's studies. I was aiming to deeply understand the functioning of European energy markets how renewable energies and the latest technical advancements regarding sustainable energy technologies have impacted energy prices in the past and what we can expect for the near future. However I did not know what to expect from the internship experience, nor whether I would find the position useful or not.
This internship at GNERA has allowed me to put into practice all the skills developed during the past years. On the one hand, I found all technical knowledge acquired on each renewable technology very useful to understand all their particularities when entering the complexity of electricity markets, that is for instance the intermittency of wind, the availability of solar energy, or the reliability and capability of nuclear or hydro and how these would affect the portfolio of GNERA. On the other hand, all the socioeconomic frameworks of sustainable energy systems learned during my courses positioned me in a privileged position within my role of market operator as it allowed me to quickly understand the role of the company along with its linkages with all agents participating in the Spanish electricity system.
Ultimately this experience has led to me finding a place within an increasingly demanding energy industry. As a market operator, I have faced the challenges existing on all ends of the energy system, working along with producers, the TSO (REE) and the Spanish MO (OMIE), getting a broader perspective of nowadays sustainable energy systems in a challenging and professional workspace. All this was carried out along with a great team as it was the department of operations of GNERA
