Host 2
HoSt, a seasoned player in bioenergy with three decades of expertise, specializes in diverse sustainable energy technologies, including thermochemical conversion, anaerobic digestion, CO2 capture, and biogas upgrading. Their R&D efforts focus on expanding into gasification, seeking innovative routes for sustainable energy technologies.
My internship involved the mechanical design of a tar cracker and syngas cooler for a circulating fluidized bed gasifier at HoSt. Addressing techno-economic constraints, I developed software tools for heat transfer modeling, assessing feasibility for a 1 ton/h biomass gasifier. Upscaling possibilities were explored using modular design concepts. FEM simulations ensured mechanical robustness according to Eurocodes. The tar cracker's design drew from University of Twente experiments, while the syngas cooler adhered to European boiler design codes, contributing to HoSt's goal of developing gasification technology for biofuel synthesis.
