Internship assignment:

Research the impact of aluminum train welding on the aspects: Man, Machine, Method, Environment and Material within NSTM.

This abstract provides an overview of an apprenticeship that focused on investigating the diverse consequences of aluminium train welding as it relates to the Dutch Railways system. The internship entailed an examination of the impacts that this welding technique had on the "Material," "Man," "Machine," "Method," and “Environment”. The objective of the internship was to assess the impact of aluminium train welding from multiple perspectives, taking into account both technical and human factors. The thorough examination was aimed at clarifying the impact of this new methodology for the company and how it should adapt it processes in order to successfully transfer to weld aluminium trains. The internship provided me with insightful experience that deepened my understanding of materials and welding, especially in regards of aluminium, which is to be considered the future of metals in transportation. I had the opportunity to collaborate with engineers and welders in a real working environment and see what are the current problems that they face every day. I was engage in hands-on research, including data collection, analysis and comparing the knowledge of academical level with these in the real working environment in the Dutch railways. The first picture below shows one of the welding table in NSTM were I experienced working with welders and collecting important information. On the second picture is seen my working desk, where I spend time research from academic literature and technical specification in order to improve the knowledge and the process of aluminium welding within the company
