Roger renewable energy BV

The company where the internship has been completed is ROGER renewable energy BV. This is an abbreviation for renewable off-grid energy resolution meaning that the company aims to provide energy in the form of hydrogen for off-grid demand. ROGER is one of the first companies in the Netherlands to respond to the off-grid demand for hydrogen and aims to become a major player in this field by developing regional 25 – 100MW green hydrogen plants.

The intended purpose of this assignment is to design and analyze different energy system concepts for increasing the grid flexibility which would be able to provide the required power electricity for hydrogen production as a backup system. In the analysis, different energy systems and storage technologies (e.g. advanced batteries, novel biogas generator, steam power cycle) will be compared by making mass and energy balance with respect to thermodynamics analysis.

The assignment shifted towards the application for the Innovfund subsidy by the European Union. ROGER was looking to receive a subsidy from the European Union out of the Innovfund, which is one of the world's largest funding programs for the demonstration of innovative low-carbon technologies. This led to another type of assignment. Namely determining the projected hydrogen production, input requirements, energy balances, and carbon dioxide avoidance over a period of 10 years of production.
