Education Award: And the winner is…

The past few weeks all ME students had the chance to vote for their favourite teacher. Today the education award drink would have taken place, but due to Corona this is cancelled. Rob Hagmeijer, the winner of last year, was going to award the price to the new winner of the education award. As this is not possible anymore, it will be announced this way.

Five teachers were nominated, but who is the winner? Is it Edwin van der Weide? Students appreciate him because of the excellent lectures and because he is always available for questions. Or is it Gert-Willem Römer with his clear lectures and passion for the song ‘Blue Monday’? Maybe Ton Bor, who is known for his humour and positivity in the lectures, has the most votes. Or Genie Stoffels? Students value her involvement and activism behind the scenes. All of them are very good teachers but not the best according the students; with 37% of the votes, the winner of the education award is Boukje de Gooijer!

Students mainly mention her passion and motivation: ‘The combination of her dedication, enthusiasm and perfectionism are worth winning a price like this.’ Moreover, her activism is appreciated very well, for instance, Boukje is part of the faculty council and she helped during the beach party that Newton organised last year by making cocktails. Lastly, students feel like they can always come by for questions and like the welcoming manner of presenting.

I want to congratulate Boukje on behalf of the board! She may participate in the University-wide Teachers award. Thanks to everyone who voted!
