Excursions September & October
In September and october we had four excursions to Brink, Aeronamic, Enerpac and TME.
On September 14th we went to Staphorst to visit Brink Towing Systems, who design OEM towing systems (for brands such as Jaguar and Aston Martin) as well as aftermarket systems. In Staphorst we got a tour around the factory where we saw several robotic welders, CNC mills, the testing center, and much more. After the tour, Brink provided an interactive presentation with two employees, explaining the different steps in designing the towing system from start to finish and the design considerations of designing a system. The excursion gave a great insight how complex these towing systems are.
On the 26th of September we traveled to Almelo with the always reliable Newton van. There was a safety check at the entrance because the factory is on one of the most secured business parks in the Netherlands. After that we got a presentation about what Aeronamic is doing. They are producing high rotating parts for a wide range of sectors, for example aviation. During the tour around the factory, one of the employees showed us the highly automated machines they have. The factory was very clean and organised. There was a research going on while we were there, so we saw that as well. Aeronamic is constantly searching for new methods of high rotating mechanisms. After a short presentation and a cup of coffee we returned to the Horst, where several students joined the afternoon lectures. It was very nice to see how precisely the high rotating parts have to be produced and that there are strict safety requirements.
On the 10th of october, we visited Enerpac. After a nice sight seeing tour on the bike we arrived at their depot in Hengelo. The people from Enerpac showed us how they handle the specific problems of their clients. To solve this problems they use huge hydraulic lifting systems, which are build behind the office. We have had a entertaining tour which ended by gigantic new developed lifting system, which can be seen in the picture. We want to thank Enerpac for this very interesting excursion!
24 October we went to TME in Zwolle. This relatively small engineering company, with a broad amount of customers that range from offshore- to the concrete-industry. They showed us some of their tools they use to cut the steel sheets, like a 3D laser- and plasma-cutters. After a nice lunch and presentation about the engineering group, we got to do a case that shows what kind of design problems the engineers deal with at TME. We had to design a retractable roof for a harbour warehouse. This was a lot more complex than at first thought. TME showed us that they are capable of a wide range of engineering problems, and are also able to produce their parts efficient and cheap.
In November and December we have three great excursions! 16 November we will visit agritechnica, on 30 november we will vissit damen dredging and on the 12 th of december we visit Optiver.
We hope to see you soon!
