ASML is a well-known high-tech multinational company based in the Netherlands, leading supplier to the semiconductor industry, providing chipmakers with hardware, software and services to mass produce the patterns of integrated circuits (microchips). Together with its partners, ASML drives the advancement of more affordable, more powerful, more energy-efficient microchips. Although ASML is headquartered in Veldhoven where most of the research & development as well as assembly in the clean room are, more than 42,000 ASML’s employees are spread in 60 locations through out Europe, the US, and Asia, and ASML Delft is one of them. In Delft, the teams are mostly working on research and development on several setups going on the clean room, specifically on the metrology and inspection sector with close collaboration with the teams all over the world. The internship program at ASML Delft for 6 months, was part of my master study programme of mechanical engineering. The internship project I was working on, was a specific manufacturing (bonding) method, which is very challenging, but could offer a very enhancing feature towards result.

Together with the mechanical engineer team, as well as other colleagues in ASML research department, I did investigation towards the topic from literature study and foreground information of the experience in the past, where I came up with the analysis from the combination of my foreknowledge, literature study, simulations, and consultation with other colleagues. Eventually I could deliver the conclusion and the next steps, as well as a wellprepared documentation for the continuation of the research, thus could be useful in the product development.

During the internship, I had the opportunity to learn closely how things work in a high-tech company, with the fast-paced, efficient, and precise vision. I was privileged to work closely with many experienced people of ASML and the partners who are experts and very experienced in their domains, as well as the well-equipped tools supporting the work. Their inputs and our discussions bring up ideas not only regarding the topic, but also, I am happy to give ideas and my point of view regarding other topics which will be valuable as well. Moreover, the people of ASML Delft team are warm, very welcoming, making it feels like home. Indeed, ASML is a very great place to learn, develop, and work together to give huge impact in the world. It’s a pleasure to have internship program at ASML.
