Thorwald van Vuure from the Research department of Tecnotion will discuss the problems that occurred recently during production of the electric coils that form the heart of Tecnotion linear motors. A linear motor is a type of direct drive that is typically used to provide motion systems with a combination of speed, accuracy and acceleration.

The coils are routinely checked on DC resistance, as well as AC resistance and self-induction. When both DC resistance and self-induction are within spec, how can AC resistance be out of spec? The solution of this mystery will be discussed.
