Witteveen & Bos

I did my Internship in Witteveen+Bos. The company is working with Rijkswaterstaat by providing consultancy on looking for solutions for more sustainable ways in which 8 tunnels in the south of the Netherlands could consume their energy, which forms part of one of the organization's objectives of the southern tunnel’s renovation project. The assignment I had to do was a model that could dimension an energy system for self-supplying the tunnels with electrical energy, composed of photovoltaic solar panels and a set of batteries. The model also had to be able to evaluate the technical, economic, and environmental impact, to determine its sustainability. I enjoyed my assignment, and the final product was satisfying not only for the company but also for myself. I could strengthen my ability to take the initiative and be proactive. Also, I had the opportunity to practice my presentation skills. One feedback I got and will try to work on is being more efficient, meaning that, even though I always tried to look for the answers myself, sometimes it’s better to ask colleagues and save some time. The environment within the company was good and so was the relationship I had with my supervisors and the team in general.
