Reden
The internship was supplied by Reden, a group of engineers specialising in product and process development using simulation technology. With their models they provide clients with an understanding of the underlying physics of a problem, allowing them to redesign and improve upon their products and processes.
During the internship, a coupling methodology was set up for CFD calculations with external CFD packages. Making use of this methodology, Reden can perform a co-simulation using models that are not integrated into the regular CFD solver. In this case, specifically, the coupling was made for a transitional flow regime (increased Knudsen number), where part of the domain is solved using continuum equations, while a subdomain needs a solver that can solve rarefied regimes. Some of the results of a co-simulation are shown below.
The support during the internship, along with the friendly environment made this a great experience that pushed me to learn about rarefaction, simulation/ modelling, and other gas-related phenomena.
