Thales
During the course of my internship at Thales I was tasked with redesigning the drive system on the SMART-L MM radar, an antenna array that is capable of scanning the surroundings to a distance of 2000 km. With the help of colleagues and peers, I have constructed a concept that will have the same capabilities as the old system but functions under vastly different circumstances due to the addition of a radome. These adaptations are mainly focused on maintainability, but also on the total costs of the system over the entire lifespan of the radar. The internship showed me how to work individually and within a team of engineers on a complex problem, while also showing me what it is like to be a mechanical engineer in a high-tech environment.
