Demcon High-Tech Systems
My internship was at Demcon High-Tech Systems in Enschede. The goal of the internship assignment was to assess whether a co-simulation between MATLAB Simulink and the relatively new Ansys extension called Ansys Motion, could be used to replace parts or extend the current modelling approach of non-linear behaving mechanisms. Therefore, after a few tests on simple systems were performed, the main focus was directed around the system which was designed by Demcon and can be seen in the attached figure. This system shows non-linearities since a rotating input is transformed into a translating output. In addition, it has configuration-dependent loading cases, which of course also introduces non-linear behaviour. During the internship, I was able to use the knowledge obtained from various courses provided by the UT, especially control and dynamics-related courses. Next to that, I learned a lot about Ansys and was able to refine my MATLAB skills. Furthermore, it was interesting to see how the different compartments of the company all contribute and work together to find the best solutions for their customers. I was able to observe how important communication skills are for engineers, as the different compartments found obstacles and solutions that affect the other compartments. As a result, a lot of meetings are required. Although my work was kind of standalone, others were interested in my assignment and willing to help when I was stuck on a problem. Overall I can strongly recommend doing an internship at Demcon High-Tech Systems.
